A 132-run knock from Rhodri Lewis helped guide St Fagans to a confident 5 wicket victory over Ammanford in the Park.
Despite having put on 315 in 50 overs, Ammanford were put to the sword by St Fagans’ batters, who chased down the total in 47.2 overs on Saturday.
After an impressive showing last time out against Usk, Ammanford’s openers once again helped steer them to a commanding position early on with Dan Roberts and Gruff Owen putting on 60 for their opening partnership.
Despite Owen Morgan putting away Owen and then Owain Baxter, the home side enjoyed a fruitful spell, as new signing Matthew Spoors demonstrated his pedigree with the bat.
Opener Roberts and Spoors put on a partnership of 123 runs, before the former departed for 74 runs from 95 balls. Spoors continued the formidable showing, alongside Dylan Driscoll, before leaving the square just four runs short of his century in his second outing for the Club.
Dylan Driscoll and Jac Kenchington added quick runs to the board, as Ammanford concluded their innings having added 45 and 43 respectively, taking the hosts to 315, just a week after scoring 314 against Usk.
St Fagans’ early showings indicated there was a game to be had. Despite Jamie McIlroy taking 3 wickets with the fall of Steven Reingold, Zac Williams and Jeremy Lawlor, St Fagans showed why they have won the title 4 years running, as Owen Morgan (72) and Rhodri Lewis (123) put on an excellent partnership of 201 runs that left them in a strong position.
With rain looming, St Fagans found themselves ahead on DLS. Despite Owen Davies and Dylan Driscoll showing some fight with the ball to keep Ammanford in the game, Kian Arnold’s 25 from 22 balls saw the visitors reach the target with over 2 overs to spare.
