Xavie Clarke and Saihaj Jaspal have joined the Balconiers ahead of their South Wales Premier Cricket League opener.

Ammanford CC are delighted to confirm the signings of Xavie Clarke and Saihaj Jaspal ahead of the start of the 2022 South Wales Premier Cricket League season.

Clarke and Jaspal join a rejuvenated Ammanford side that looks to have bolstered its options with both the bat and the ball following their recent signings.

Clarke, a member of the Worcestershire CCC Academy set-up, played his Club cricket with Shifnal CC during the 2021 season. Predominantly a top-order batsman, Clarke ended his season with Shifnal on a high, having scored 143* not out in the final league match of the season against Shrewsbury CC.

Adept with the ball too, though, Clarke showed his credentials in the return fixture when he recorded season-best figures of seven wickets for 45 runs in his 10 overs at home against Shrewsbury.

Clarke, brother of England Lions batsman Joe, has started his 2022 season in form, having scored 55 from 82 balls for Cardiff UCCE against Northamptonshire in a recent first class fixture.

Meanwhile fellow new signing Jaspal has also represented Cardiff UCCE since joining Cardiff University and was part of the Cardiff University side that won the British University & College Sports Championship last season.

Jaspal, a left-arm bowler, took 33 wickets in the Essex Premier League last season, including season-best figures of six wickets for 34 runs against Ilford CC.

Jaspal, who has also featured for the Essex CC Development XI, has outlined what tempted him to join the Club and his excitement at being a part of Ammanford CC ahead of the new season.

"After looking into the club and speaking to different people, everyone spoke about the tight-knit community feel it had, but also the competitiveness. From then on I had my mind pretty much made up.

"I hope that I'll be able to have a real impact on the league this season for Ammanford. I feel like I offer something quite different in terms of my bowling and I am confident that I can get off to a good start both personally and with the team."

Whilst Jaspal notes that he has some personal goals in mind, the success of the team is paramount in his mind.

"As I do every year, I've set some personal goals for myself, more numbers wise with both bat and ball, so I hope to achieve those. The main goal though, like I said, is to win games with Ammanford and I look forward to spending time with the lads on and off the field."

The two new signings culminate a fruitful spring for Ammanford, who also added youngster Gruffudd Owen, Kurtis Marsh, as well as local player Fraser Benjamin back into their senior ranks.
